Employee Health Clinic
All employees, dependents, and retirees on the County’s medical insurance plan have cost-free access to the Employee Health Center. The Employee Health Center offers:

Basic Life & Accidental Health
The County covers all full-time employees with Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment. All employees under age 65 will have Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage equal to two times their basic annual salary, rounded to the next lower $1,000 subject to a maximum benefit of $50,000.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The Employee Assistance Program is a free benefit available to all employees and members of their household. The program is administered by CIGNA, which guarantees total confidentiality.
Tuition Reimbursement
Charlotte County is dedicated to the professional development of its employees and offers tuition reimbursement as a way to foster that development. All full-time employees, having completed their initial orientation period, are eligible to be reimbursed up to half of their tuition costs at an accredited college or university.
Pension/Retirement Benefits
Charlotte County participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS). FRS offers a choice of two retirement plans: the FRS Investment Plan and the FRS Pension Plan. For additional information, visit the FRS website.
Wellness at Work Program
Our Wellness at Work program aims to promote a positive environment that engages all employees and families in the pursuit of health and wellness. Programs offered include tobacco cessation, incentives to participate in local walk/run events, and individual and team challenges throughout the year.
Other Benefits
Holidays
The County recognizes and observes eleven (11) holidays annually. Additionally, full-time employees who have completed their initial orientation period receive two personal days and one professional development day during each fiscal year.
Annual/Sick Leave - IAFF employees
All full-time IAFF employees accrue annual (vacation) leave and sick leave. Annual leave accrual rates are based on tenure and scheduled hours.
Paid Time Off (PTO) - non-IAFF employees
All full-time (non-IAFF) employees accrue paid time off (PTO). PTO accrual rates are based on FLSA status, tenure, and actual hours worked.
Training and Development
Charlotte County believes in lifelong learning. That’s why we offer regular learning opportunities, with both in house trainers and outside experts. Topics range from improving interpersonal skills, personal growth, and effective leadership.
Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness

Community Citizenship
Our employees play an active role in our community, from volunteering time to pick up trash along local roads to donating back to school supplies for children in our local schools.
